Why we fight

words move, band of brothers, falujha, iraq, tank, burning man

You do not win a war,
And laugh,
He says,

-i can smell the fuel coming off his boots-

No one asks to be a hero,
You fight for the man standing next to you.

A short simple little poem, but it hits home with every word. “You do not win a war,| And laugh”; poignant. I really like your work.

and we fight the man appearing to stand next to us… sometimes…

  6. we would perfer not to, but to work side by side instead. why can’t the world be perfect? Maybe we’d get bored with perfection?

You were given a personal theme for the weekend, by a blog friend of yours

We do, don’t we? Our families, our friends…

  8. kolembo says:

Hanna, you poor thing, yes, you’re right of course, but I was thinking of the men and women from both sides that we put in there to fight for us. Once you’re in it, then what? They say you fight for country or for God, but inside, they are just people, ordinary people in extraordinary situations. That for me, makes them people we cannot forget.

  9. Catalyst says:

    You know…

What you touch on here is the only value I could see in the Army. I knew that my brothers in arms would die for me – and, I for them. They teach you to work as one. I’ve heard people say they’d take a bullet for me and never placed faith in their words, but this was true for every one in my platoon. No one needed to even speak the words.

    Truly a beautiful thing.

So true!!! I believe even out of war we fight for the men standing next to us.

  11. Hanna Wilbur says:

    In war both sides loose.
It makes me so frustrated that the people waging wars are strong people with ‘power’. While they point at others saying other people are bad and love war. But, they will all pay for their injustices, I believe in that.

  12. Stumbled here by accident and totally dig the

  16. Very Very nice! Fight for the brother standing next to you… we can live for ourselves, but to live for others is the real test.
