You would walk into a quiet house,
In a quiet neighbourhood and,
Take a young girl,
Into the woods,
And rape her,
Leaving a father disfigured,
You would,
Take a husband,
In the middle of the night,
And break his legs,
And electrocute him,
Because he will not salute your
Blown up image,
You would,
Empty bank accounts,
Nurtured for years,
By elderly couples who,
Just want rest,
And something leftover for grandchildren,
You would dismember life this way,
And bear no burden?
I tell you,
There were angels in the courtroom,
And in the playground,
And on the plane,
But I was not one of them.
I will find you and,
Eat you up.

evocative short poetry – words move

Greed is the cause of all this misery you expertly sum up in your poem,
“Demon inside”. These horrors happen all over this world. No particular country holds this market…

Very strong poetry! I am amazed at the optimist in you that still tries to look for a spot of light in the terror that you describe so potently..
You do that … just don’t get yourself hurt. The horrors you mention are more distant here, across the ocean, but brutality of spirit is a human disease, and it festers everywhere and will grow out of bounds without a NO from the human community. Great poem. – Brendan
Yeah!
A very powerful piece of writing.
The demons that walk amongst us.
Pamela
Very chilling and powerful piece here! It is, indeed, difficult to practice peace when all around us is chaos and hatred. But then, that is when we need angels the most.
Ay,speechless at the sheer power of these words.
great picture to illustrate a great post!
the Demon inside, seems to have many held in his sway.
If there be a judgement day all will be punished, but what if there isn’t? Do we just have to live and learn one of life’s hardest lessons? xPenx
I had a wow moment reading this.
This is a really strong portrait. Emotionally packed. It is good art, making me stop and ruminate over the words and read again and again.
Wow.
your writing is so unique and powerful.
The image that this conjured up for me was the reality of some countries under despotic rulers and their minions. Chilling, Kenny. Not sure if that’s what you had in mind, just what I visualized.
Yes, that’s in there. So is the Russian school in Beslan, 9/11…I didn’t know how strong to make these images. I was wondering how/whether/if life completes itself, forgiveness/justice, both. How to return to balance both ways, and once more, call it good.
Perfect balance, in my view.
A powerful, honest commentary on the lack of justice in our modern world. Good work.
Your bravery and strength astonish me. I could not write this firstly because I will not go ‘there,’ will not immerse myself in ‘it,’ Maybe for a moment or two, but not long enough to transform it into words. And such brilliant words…
Beautiful.
Knowing that rapists, murderers, thieves, walk in the world freely beside us, destroying and disrupting life, are reasons enough to ask angels to be wary of those who commit crimes and those who seek revenge.
